Friday Night Laundry

Yes it is Friday night and I am doing laundry. I figured I was extremely productive today so I didn't want to stop when I got home. Since I am the DECA advisor at my school we had a competition which means I had to prepare sub plans, and then find out that they weren't followed. ( Other teachers will understand how frustrating this is)

We also had our rival school Basketball game tonight. We planned a little Jag Bash, and I helped prepare food for 250 students. It was a fun time, but we didn't win. To bad, I even let them paint a little paw print on my check.

I had to stop at Wal*Mart afterwards to pick up some supplies for Emma's party and Hunter's blessing tomorrow. I asked my niece what she wanted for her birthday? Her reply, "playdough and barbie clothes." There is an entire aisle at Wal*Mart dedicated to Barbie merchandise and other princess crap...I mean other princess stuff. I figured I would be able to find something pretty for her barbie doll, but to my dismay Barbie really dresses like a little...how do I say this nicely...a hooker. Okay it wasn't nice but really what happened to pretty formal dresses and fun shoes, boy how things have changed.

By this time its 9:30 and I figured I might as well be productive while I am still awake, hence the laundry. It doesn't stop there either, I also cleaned the kitchen and then opened the fridge to have a bottle of jam fall and break on the floor. Then I cleaned all the hair out of the vacuum, I think having three girls live in the same place is almost just as bad as a dog with all our hair.

I am excited for tomorrow...a family party. Did I ever mention that I have the greatest family in the world. Well I do!

Life long learning

Learning is fun. I love to learn. I thought I would share a few things that I learned today.

1. A small paper cut on your little pinky can make your entire hand ache.
2. I really do have an entertaining job...high school students say some dang funny things.
3. Leg day at the gym always kicks my butt, and the exercise ball will always win.
4. Running into friends whom you haven't seen in awhile always help you remember who you really are. Good ol' Dixie days.
5. Cafe Rio is one of the best things invented.
6. The chicken toastada at Cafe Rio is one of my favorite things.
7. Eating at Cafe Rio is so much better when your not alone.
8. An "over the top" grasshopper cookie can take away your troubles momentarily.
9. Heat warmers in your seats are wonderful.
10. Family is always there, no matter what.

Blind in the Fog

I meant to write about this last week, but I didn't so I get to share today. We had some really bad fog last weekend. It was creepy, blindly, and scary. I was driving over to my friend Mel's house and almost turned around like seven times. I didn't, instead I focused on the outside white lane on the road and of course took it slow. So then I had this thought. Sometimes we go through life and its very foggy, we can't see what is up ahead. We have our end destination in mind, but the only way we can get through the foggy spots is to slow down and focus on the white lane guides. They will lead us to the right spot. Just a little "fog for thought".

Super Good Skookie

When I was in Hawaii my sister introduced me to the pazookie. Its a delicious warm cookie topped with ice cream, and so gooey warm it makes my mouth water just thinking about it. Well some smart marketer decided he could sell a "skookie" which is a small cast iron pan with little pot handles, so you can cook your cookie in a skillet. Pretty smart idea. So I was doing my Christmas shopping and told my sister Ashley that I was going to get Teddy a skookie, because I knew how much he loves his sweets. She told me that was a dumb idea and that he wouldn't like it. End of story...well sort of. So I bought it for him anyhow. On Christmas morning Ashley gives me a gift and it was quite heavy...and to my surprise it was a skookie maker. I must say that Teddy was so excited about it. So the next present I get was Teddy's, which happened to be the same shape and size, so my dad makes this comment, "oh look Teddy got his own." And then he opened it up and found his own skookie maker. We all had a good laugh. Ash told me it was dumb, because she had already bought me one, and I didn't tell her that I got one for Teddy, because she thought it was dumb. So we created our first Skookie on Sunday. I must say it looks better than the one on the box. It was a fun little treat. Ash, Dad and I shared one, and JB....well he pretty much ate his own:)

Fashionista?

So I have the most adorable little niece, so brings me so much joy. I am not sure how I would survive this crazy world without her cute little smile, silly comments, slumber parties and her saying "I love you." My sister and brother in law did really good. She was staying at my mom's house and I went over. She was wearing a cute little outfit, and obviously dresses herself. So I asked "Emma, who picked out your outfit today?" and she said that she did. So once again, I told her 'your quite the fashionista.' She told me "no Amy, me not a fashionista me a princess." I had a good chuckle, one day she will realize that being a fashionista is better than a princess. Only a true princess can pull off flowers, stripes, and princess shoes.

No School

I feel a bit selfish, here it is a day off of school and I didn't even reflect until about 6:00 pm the reason why? I am so thankful for my civil rights and for all those who have fought so hard to protect them. Since I get to live in this great country I am granted those freedoms, and I know I take them for granted. I sometimes ponder why? Why did I get chosen to live here in this country, in this state, in this city, at this particular time, to my amazing family? I must have a purpose. I don't think I truly live up to it sometimes. Although its a new year and a big change for me. I have been reflecting on my past and want to be a better person. I have made some big goals for 2009, and I am going to accomplish them!

So since we didn't have school today, I got to sleep in. I will admit my alarm went off at 10:30, but I stayed in bed pondering my life until about 11. About that time, I got up sent off an email and made me some delicious eggs. I then went down into my basement to finish cleaning up a mess that my dad and I made a few weeks ago. My dad helped me sheet rock a small room and put up some shelves so I can organize the basement. And when I say my dad helped me, I mean he did 95% of the work while I watched him. We did have some good bonding time especially the days after Christmas while I was a emotional wreck. My dad is so amazing and he is such a great guy. I will be so blessed to find a man who is quality like my father.

After sweeping up mounds of sawdust and sneezing my head off, (You see I have a slight allergy to dust) I finally got ready for the day. My mom, my sister and I went to do a little shopping. The goal was to find a dress for her wedding, and I actually did, and it was on sale! It was awesome. I then picked up a few other items...not on the list, but I am quite excited about my purchases.

Turkey for a Day

So while we were raising money for our Sub for Santa at my school my dear student Gabby dared me. If I raised more money than her she would have the wear the chicken suit, and vice-versa. Guess who lost? Seriously what student is going to give you money if they will get to see you like this all day...Yes all day....I had to teach in it and it was not the most fun thing. It was for a good cause though.

gotta laugh

I just was thinking how laughing is so great for the heart, mind and soul. I am lucky to have a job where I get to laugh everyday. Today my students were presenting their business plans. They seriously have some of the most creative ideas. All of them were doing great and then this one partnership got up. The name of their lawn care business....."two bro's and some hose". How funny is that, and it doesn't stop there they did a really good presentation and sold their ideas. It was the top vote in the class. I sometimes think I am not being a good role model and people might think that is inappropriate, but seriously you just got to laugh.

I also had a doctors appointment today. I went in to get this lump looked at on my hand. Its weird and it was moving. So an ultra sound and probably $200 later, all is well. It is nothing to worry about....thank goodness. My doctor did say I should stop typing on a laptop...but look at me now.

I went to our enrichment tonight, it was titled a new year a new you, how original right? Since I teach a fashion merchandising class I got to teach tips and tricks for dressing to your body shape, size and color. It was fun. I am so thankful for the relief society organization. Some the sisters in my ward are just so amazing and quality.

Typical Monday

So I say its a typical Monday. The semester ends this week for my students and I keep hearing questions like this: "Ms. A, why do I have a F?" , "Ms.A are we doing anything important today?", "Ms. A, can I still turn in this assigment from the beginning of November?". All I can say is are you serious? Let's anyalze this. You have an "F' because you haven't turned in any assignments since December and yes turn in that late assignment, I am not going to grade it but turn it in. And yes, believe it or not we do important stuff in here everyday. I swear sometimes I wonder what the heck I am doing? And then I think about all my amazing students and my long holiday break and that seriously I am grateful that I have a career and for the most part I do love teaching...Okay enough of the end of semester venting.

On a better note...or not, I had to go to the Doctor's today. It was the normal checkup. I also have a weird lump on my hand, and it has moved. I get to have an ultrasound on Wednesday to see exactly what it is. Let me tell you being a woman is great!

Let see...I invented the best thing. I like to make popcorn and when its warm I like to put m&m's on it. It is so good. Speaking of m&m's, I created some personalized m&m's for my love for Christmas. They were quite expensive but fun. They have two different pictures and two different sayings. To my dismay my love and I are no longer together, however I am not wasting perfectly good m&m's. So I took them to my sisters house this weekend. I had them all in a bag, I asked my little niece if she wanted some m&m's. Of course she said yes, and then I showed her that Teddy and mine pictures were on them, and said come on lets eat Teddy's head. She wouldn't she totally freaked out, I tried to explain her that it was just our pictures, but she still wouldn't eat Teddy's head. I guess thats good for Teddy.

Inspired

As I read family and friends blogs, I am inspired to start my own. I kind of think of it as my own personal history. I decided that I have funny things happen to me, and since I suck at writting in a journal than atleast I can try this out. I am currently on the search for a new laptop. I am trying to stay within a budget and you would think will all the economic news I would be able to find one, but I haven't. So the search continues.
